Bhubaneswar, Jan 22 (NationPress) Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has commended the personnel of the Special Operation Group (SOG) of Odisha Police for their effective joint operation against Left-Wing Extremists along the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border. He also declared an increase in the Risk Allowance for the jawans to Rs 25,000.

During this operation, a total of 14 Maoists, including five female extremists, were neutralized in a collaborative effort by the Central Reserve Police Force, Chhattisgarh Police, and the SOG of Odisha Police at Kularighat in Chhattisgarh, located just 5 kilometers from Nuapada district in Odisha.

The joint operation commenced on the night of January 19.

The SOG personnel of Odisha Police played a crucial role in this mission, and Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed his congratulations to all the involved personnel via a post on the official 'X' handle of the Chief Minister's Office.

According to the CMO office, the state government has decided to increase the Risk Allowance for SOG jawans from Rs 8,000 to Rs 25,000.

Furthermore, the Chief Minister indicated that anti-Maoist operations in Odisha will be further escalated in the upcoming days.

This operation is recognized as one of the largest anti-Maoist campaigns in recent history and is being celebrated as a pivotal moment in the battle against Maoism.

The mission is perceived as a significant setback to the Maoist factions active in the region for years.

Previously, Union Home Minister Amit Shah also praised the operation, labeling it a “mighty blow to Naxalism.” He remarked on X, “Our security forces have achieved a major success towards establishing a Naxal-free Bharat. The CRPF, SOG Odisha, and Chhattisgarh Police, in a unified operation, have neutralized 14 Naxalites along the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border.”

He added, “With our commitment to a Naxal-free India and the collaborative efforts of our security forces, Naxalism is nearing its end.”

Notably, Jayram Reddy, a senior Maoist leader known as Chalapati, was killed during the gunfight that occurred in a forest along the Chhattisgarh-Odisha border. Reddy had a bounty of Rs one crore placed on his head.
