Bhubaneswar, June 6 (NationPress) In light of the recent surge in Covid-19 cases nationwide, the Odisha government has escalated its surveillance and containment initiatives to safeguard public health throughout the state, an official announced on Friday.
According to the latest data provided by the Health Department, a total of 755 samples have been tested in Odisha as of June 6, 2025.
Out of these, 38 samples tested positive, with 9 individuals already having recovered. The remaining 29 patients are currently in home isolation and are reported to be stable.
To synchronize state-level strategies with national readiness, the Odisha government took part in a high-level virtual review meeting held on June 3, 2025, led by Dr. Sunita Sharma, Director General of Health Services (DGHS), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoH&FW), Government of India.
This meeting involved representatives from ICMR institutions, the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), State Surveillance Units, and various health authorities from the state.
Subsequent to the meeting, the Union Health Ministry issued a comprehensive press release indicating that India currently has 4,302 active Covid-19 cases, with 864 new cases confirmed in the previous 24 hours.
The majority of these cases are mild and are being treated at home. Since January 1, 2025, there have been 44 reported deaths related to Covid-19, primarily among individuals with pre-existing health conditions.
“Healthcare systems have been instructed to ensure sufficient oxygen supply, availability of ventilators, isolation beds, and essential medications. Mock drills aimed at testing oxygen infrastructure and hospital preparedness were held on June 2 and are planned for June 4–5. Surveillance of ILI and SARI cases has been heightened, and positive samples are being sent for Whole Genome Sequencing. The public is urged to adhere to COVID-appropriate practices, including hand hygiene, cough etiquette, self-monitoring, and avoiding crowded places if symptomatic,” the statement noted.
The Odisha government has reaffirmed its commitment to rigorously implement all precautionary measures and guidelines issued by the Centre, with the goal of reducing the impact of the ongoing Covid-19 surge and safeguarding public health.
