Bhubaneswar, April 2 (NationPress) The Odisha government officially launched the 'Shishu Vatika', a pre-school initiative aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, on Wednesday.
In conjunction with this, a special event termed 'Pravesh Divas' was held to commence enrolment for the 2025-26 academic year.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi inaugurated the initiative and the 'Khadi Chuan' movement at Badagada High School in Bhubaneswar.
The state government has implemented NEP 2020 to promote early childhood education.
Moreover, Class IX and X students have been included in the Midday Meal initiative under the 'Mukhyamantri Poshan Yojana', expanding the previously restricted programme which only covered students from Class I to VIII.
"Today, the Odisha Government has launched NEP 2020 alongside Pravesh Divas, observing the 'Khadi Chuan' tradition to signify the beginning of enrolment for the academic year 2025-26 in Shishu Vatikas at Badagada High School. We have also initiated the Midday Meal programme for students in Class IX and X under the Mukhyamantri Poshan Yojana," stated CM Majhi.
"In the Midday Meal programme, we are providing nutrition-rich meals including additional eggs and ladoos made from millet and peanuts. The implementation of NEP 2020 was stalled in the state for the past five years. However, since our government assumed office, we have rolled out NEP 2020 in Odisha.
With NEP 2020, we are committed to ensuring early childhood education starting at age five, welcoming students traditionally with the Khadi Chuan programme," CM Majhi added.
In a video message, the Chief Minister reaffirmed the government's dedication to delivering quality education to the youth of Odisha.
He emphasized that the primary goal of the 'Prabesh Utsav' and 'Khadi Chhuan' events is to encourage students to enroll in schools.
This initiative aims to create a memorable first-day experience for children.
The government aspires to guarantee a modern, empowered, and self-reliant future for students through initiatives like Shishu Vatika.
