Bhubaneswar, May 15 (NationPress) The Odisha Vigilance uncovered assets valued in crores during extensive operations targeting a senior official of the state government, who is accused of accumulating assets disproportionate to his legitimate income sources.
The official in question, Asit Kumar Patra, serves as the Additional Block Development Officer (ABDO) for the Dharmasala Block in Jajpur district.
On May 15, 2025, in response to allegations regarding his disproportionate asset possession, multiple searches were executed at seven different locations across Jajpur, Cuttack, Bhadrak, and Bhubaneswar (Khordha) districts, as reported by state vigilance authorities.
A total of seven teams from the Odisha Vigilance, comprising eight Deputy Superintendents of Police, nine Inspectors, and additional support staff, conducted these searches under the authority of warrants issued by the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Cuttack.
Locations targeted during the raid included Patra's home village in Garadeswar near Sundarimuhan in Jajpur, his official residence, and office at Dharamshala, along with a relative's residence in Bhandaripokhari of Bhadrak district.
During the operation, officials discovered that Patra owned three multi-storey buildings, a shopping complex in Jajpur, a two-BHK flat in Cuttack, and five high-value plots, including four in upscale areas along Jajpur road.
The Technical Wing of Vigilance is currently assessing the measurements and market values of these properties.
In addition, authorities found cash amounting to Rs 1,85,560, gold jewelry weighing 700 grams, bank and insurance deposits totaling Rs 65 lakhs, two two-wheelers, and household items valued at over Rs 3.27 lakhs.
Reports indicate that in 2024, the Odisha Vigilance initiated action in 211 cases against 345 individuals, including 54 Class-I officers, 46 Class-II officers, 140 Class-III employees, two Class-IV employees, 19 other public servants, and 84 private citizens.
Among these, there were 62 cases related to Disproportionate Assets (DA), 96 trap cases, and the remainder concerned various corruption issues.
