Bhubaneswar, Feb 11 (NationPress) The Deputy Chief Minister of Odisha, Pravati Parida, expressed on Wednesday that the state administration is focused not just on women’s advancement but on “women-led development”.
While speaking at the 33rd Foundation Day event of the Odisha State Commission for Women (OSCW), Parida reaffirmed the government’s commitment to eradicating violence, crime, and gender discrimination against women while ensuring prompt justice.
She praised the Commission’s innovative choice of using fruit baskets instead of traditional bouquets during the celebrations, labeling it a creative and significant gesture.
Parida reiterated her call for distributing fruits at Anganwadi Centres to address malnutrition, emphasizing that proper nutrition is a collective responsibility.
She acknowledged the Commission’s tireless efforts and encouraged women to advance with confidence and independence, promising ongoing support through various empowerment programs.
Additionally, state health minister Mukesh Mahaling, who was present at the event, stated that a healthy state is fundamental to a healthy nation, achievable by prioritizing women’s well-being.
Mahaling highlighted government initiatives like the “Khushi” scheme, which provides free sanitary napkins to adolescent girls.
He also mentioned the state’s deworming campaign, where medicines are being offered to children aged 1–19 years and women of reproductive age (20–24 years). He urged the members of the State Commission for Women to maintain their dedicated efforts towards fostering positive social change.
During the gathering, Industry Minister Sampad Chandra Swain outlined the government's efforts to enhance skill development for girls.
He noted that girls from Odisha have showcased their skills on international platforms through training at the World Skill Centre, bringing honor to the state.
He called for united efforts to create a safe, healthy, and empowered society.
Significantly, in the financial year 2024–25, the OSCW addressed 1,879 cases through hearings, showcasing its unwavering commitment to safeguarding women’s rights and delivering justice.
To facilitate accessible justice for victims, district-level court camps have been organized in collaboration with district administrations. In 2024–25, such camps were held in Balangir and Gajapati districts, resolving seven cases in each district.
