Key Takeaways
Bhubaneswar, Jan 26 (NationPress) The tableau from Odisha was a highlight during the national Republic Day parade at Kartavya Path, New Delhi, celebrating the 77th anniversary of the Republic on Monday.
As per an official announcement, the tableau was themed 'Samruddhi Ka Mantra, Aatmanirbhar Bharat', emphasizing Odisha's significant role in fostering an Aatmanirbhar Bharat through local production and sustainable practices.
“The tableau illustrated Odisha’s comprehensive developmental journey, artfully merging agricultural success with its rich cultural heritage alongside modern industry, innovation, skill enhancement, and advanced technology. It showcased the state’s adept utilization of natural resources, human talent, and technological advancements, highlighting its advancing position in India’s social and economic landscape. The narrative depicted a continuous evolution from Koraput coffee, symbolizing agricultural excellence, to silicon semiconductors, representing Odisha’s rise in high-tech manufacturing,” stated the state authorities.
The tableau's forefront was designed to resemble the lower section of Lord Jagannath’s chariot, symbolizing Odisha’s cultural and spiritual essence. Rotating replicas on the upper part illustrated women’s empowerment, featuring a traditional Pattachitra-style female figure holding symbols of folk culture and knowledge, alongside a modern representation of women’s leadership in sectors like industry and technology.
Central to the tableau, Koraput coffee highlighted sustainable livelihoods and agricultural achievements, while a silicon semiconductor chip reflected Odisha’s advancements in electronics. The Mukhyamantri Kamadhenu Yojana, aimed at fostering self-reliance in milk production, was represented through a beautifully crafted Dokra bull. An idol of Lord Ganesha showcased Odisha’s prowess in stone carving, and a replica of the Konark Sun Temple at the rear highlighted the state’s rich architectural and artistic heritage.
Live demonstrations by skilled artisans on the tableau deck featured stone carving, Sabai grass handicrafts, and Pipili applique work.
The tableau was lavishly decorated with Sambalpuri textiles, Pattachitra art, traditional tribal paintings, silver filigree craftsmanship, and Manabasa Gurubar folk paintings, representing Odisha’s vibrant cultural identity. The cultural performances of the Odia folk dance Chaiti Ghoda, a tradition dating back to the 16th century, infused life into the tableau and showcased Odisha’s commitment to a self-reliant India.
It is remarkable that Odisha’s tableau clinched first place nationally in 2024 for its theme centered around women’s empowerment through handicrafts and handlooms. Furthermore, the state’s tableau for 2025, focusing on handloom and weaving traditions, was selected for the 'Dekho Apna Desh' initiative during Bharat Parv, taking place from January 26 to 31 near the Red Fort.
