Omar Abdullah, CM of J&K, Urges Reduction of Power Interruptions in Winter

Jammu, Dec 5 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, convened a meeting to address challenges surrounding power supply, curtailment schedules, revenue realization, and strategies to enhance the efficiency of the power sector during the peak winter season, according to an official statement.
The Chief Minister led a thorough review meeting of the Power Development Department (PDD) at the Civil Secretariat on Wednesday, as reported by officials.
During his address, CM Omar Abdullah highlighted the necessity of minimizing distress cuts to foster public trust in the power cut schedules announced by the PDD.
"Deviations from the stipulated curtailment schedules should be maintained at an absolute minimum. While the public may accept planned curtailments, unexpected and prolonged power disruptions are hard for them to endure," he remarked.
He reiterated the importance of a clear and dependable curtailment plan, emphasizing that distress curtailments should be infrequent and effectively communicated.
The meeting included the participation of Advisor to CM Nasir Aslam Wani, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Additional Chief Secretary to CM Dheeraj Gupta, PDD Principal Secretary Rajesh H. Prasad, Principal Secretary (Finance) Satosh D. Vaidya, Managing Directors of DISCOMs, senior officials of the PDD, and other relevant personnel. Officers based in Kashmir joined the meeting virtually.
PDD Principal Secretary, Rajesh H. Prasad, provided a comprehensive overview of critical areas, including the status of power supply, load curtailment programs, revenue realization, power purchase economics, and systems for monitoring curtailment schedules.
The meeting also assessed consumer and load profiles throughout the districts of Kashmir, concentrating on consumer counts and the challenges of meeting load requirements.
Strategies were discussed to tackle Aggregate Technical and Commercial losses through targeted interventions and methods to address revenue leakages. A comparison of power availability between this year and last year was also presented.
"The Chief Minister reviewed the physical and financial progress of ongoing works and projects funded under the Union Territory's budget, Centrally Sponsored Schemes, and the Prime Minister's Development Package. Key proposed projects were also scrutinized," the statement noted.
On this occasion, CM Omar Abdullah initiated the Monitoring of Load Curtailment Programme by visiting www.LCPJK.in, marking a significant advancement toward ensuring transparency and accountability in power curtailment schedules.
"The Chief Minister reiterated the need for stringent monitoring and effective implementation of curtailment plans to guarantee a reliable power supply while protecting the interests of consumers," the statement concluded.
