Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Calls for Rapid Restoration of Essential Services in J&K

Srinagar, Dec 28, (NationPress) On Saturday, Jammu & Kashmir's Chief Minister Omar Abdullah organized a video conference with district representatives throughout the Union Territory to evaluate the operations for snow clearance and the restoration of essential services following the heavy snowfall in the Kashmir valley, as indicated in an official statement.
The snowfall, which commenced on Friday, has significantly disrupted daily activities in numerous districts across the valley.
During the conference, Deputy Commissioners provided updates on snow clearance, the restoration of power and water supply, and the emergency response measures to tackle the severe weather conditions.
The Chief Minister instructed Deputy Commissioners to personally oversee the snow clearance efforts, highlighting the necessity to acquire photographic documentation of cleared zones to guarantee comprehensive removal and to avert ice formation on roads as temperatures drop, according to the statement.
He advocated for a proactive strategy, urging officials to mobilize sufficient personnel and machinery to the field.
District administrations were directed to send updates every two hours to both the CM’s office and the Chief Secretary’s office to keep the government informed about ongoing situations.
The Chief Engineer of Public Health Engineering (PHE) updated the CM that 90 percent of the water supply across the valley has been restored, with efforts continuing to resolve the remaining 10 percent. The Divisional Commissioner of Jammu reported that the power and water supply in the Jammu districts remain uninterrupted, while the Chief Secretary confirmed consistent progress in restoring electricity feeders and reassured that district hospitals are operating smoothly.
The Chief Minister emphasized the necessity of ensuring 100 percent attendance of doctors and paramedical staff at all district and sub-district hospitals to effectively handle emergencies, the statement further noted.
Specific instructions were given to the Deputy Commissioner of Budgam to coordinate with airport authorities in assisting stranded tourists and provide transportation if needed.
The Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir confirmed that there are adequate stocks of essential commodities, including food and other civil supplies, available in all districts.
While praising the officials for their hard work, the Chief Minister encouraged them to stay alert, proactive, and responsive to the populace's needs during this trying time.
He reiterated the significance of seamless coordination and uninterrupted services to alleviate the snowfall's impact on the public, the statement concluded.
