Mumbai, March 6 (NationPress) The opposition parties organized a demonstration within the premises of the Maharashtra Assembly on Thursday, targeting two Ministers -- Minister of State for Home Yogesh Kadam and Minister Jaykumar Gore -- demanding their resignation from office.

The opposition accuses Minister Kadam of making an inconsiderate remark regarding the assault on a 26-year-old woman at the Pune bus depot and claims that Gore was involved in harassment of a woman.

Opposition leaders, including Leader of Opposition in the state council Ambadas Danve, insisted on the resignations of Kadam and Gore, alleging that the state government is protecting them.

The opposition criticized Kadam’s comment that “in the incident at the Shivshahi bus, the victim did not resist. Due to the lack of resistance, no one suspected anything.” Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis responded by stating that Kadam's remarks were misinterpreted, but advised that “we must be more sensitive when addressing such matters, as careless statements can negatively affect public perception.” Kadam later provided clarification.

Regarding BJP Minister Gore, the opposition contended that he should either resign or be dismissed by the Chief Minister for the harassment allegations. Gore defended himself by stating that a court had previously acquitted him in 2019.

The court mandated the destruction of the seized materials and mobile phone. Gore remarked, “It has been six years since this court ruling. This case resurfaced only recently. Political figures should be mindful of their statements and timing.”

Gore announced plans to file a defamation lawsuit and pursue a privilege motion against those who continue to allege wrongdoing despite his acquittal.

Meanwhile, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut challenged Gore to proceed with a privilege motion. “Will he file one against the woman who has lodged a new complaint with the state Governor?” he inquired.

Raut further stated, “Even if the Minister claims he was imprisoned in this matter, how was he reappointed to the cabinet by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis? Despite everything, he continues to harass the woman, who plans to commence a hunger strike in front of the Vidhan Bhavan starting March 17.”

Raut urged the Chief Minister to promptly accept Gore's resignation. “I have spoken with the woman, who has expressed that she may resort to suicide if this harassment continues,” said Raut.
