Mumbai, March 2 (NationPress) In light of the public uproar surrounding the harassment of a Union minister's daughter, Maharashtra BJP leader Ram Kadam stated on Sunday that the upcoming session of the Maharashtra Assembly could see discussions aimed at strengthening laws concerning women's safety.

“Our state government is dedicated to ensuring security for everyone, whether they are common citizens, politicians, or celebrities,” Kadam conveyed to IANS, promising stringent action against the perpetrators who harassed the daughter of Union Minister of State Raksha Khadse during the Maha Shivratri Mela festivities in Jalgaon on February 28.

He also urged for swift action against the murderers of Haryana Congress worker Himani Narwal, asserting, “Every woman deserves justice and respect.”

The BJP criticized the Congress party regarding the murder of its Haryana worker and pointed to the past criminal records of some of its leaders.

While discussing women's security in Maharashtra, Kadam supported the review of the Shakti Bill that was enacted by the legislature in 2021.

“We will take all necessary actions. We will also collaborate with the Opposition,” he added, noting that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is determined to ensure safety for all, especially women.

Kadam's statements coincided with the Jalgaon Police confirming the arrest of one of the seven suspects involved in the harassment case of Union Minister of State Raksha Khadse's daughter and several other girls during a yatra in Kothali village in Muktainagar on February 28.

Regarding the political climate in the state, Kadam dismissed reports in the ‘Saamana’ newspaper, which is affiliated with Uddhav Bal Thackeray's Shiv Sena, suggesting instability within the ruling coalition.

“Making incorrect forecasts about the future has become a habit of Saamana and its leaders,” he remarked, adding that all three coalition partners are diligently working to aid the underprivileged.

The BJP leader also refuted speculation about Aditya Thackeray potentially being appointed as the Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly. “Will this be acceptable to Sharad Pawar?” he questioned, implying that some opposition leaders are concerned over Thackeray's perceived lack of maturity.

“Ultimately, the decision lies with the Opposition,” he concluded.
