Ranchi, Sep 4 (NationPress) In response to the opposition's remarks regarding the GST slab reforms, Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth declared on Thursday that the opposition is not engaged in the nation's development efforts. They are unwilling to recognize the significant progress occurring in India under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s guidance.
During a conversation with IANS, he pointed out that when India makes advancements, some individuals travel abroad to criticize the nation. He mentioned that the citizens are also aware of the mental state of opposition leaders.
He expressed gratitude to PM Modi and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for their initiatives in reforming the GST slabs. He emphasized that PM Modi has provided a significant benefit to 1.4 billion (140 crore) citizens, which is aimed at enhancing the prosperity of every household. Following the GST reforms, essential goods, educational services, healthcare, agricultural tools, electronics, and vehicles will become more affordable, offering substantial relief to the populace.
Furthermore, the minister highlighted that Prime Minister Modi is delivering on his commitments to the country's citizens. On August 15, during his address from the Red Fort, PM Modi promised a special gift for Diwali, and now, such a monumental decision has brought joy to 1.4 billion citizens. The auspicious festival of Navratri will commence on September 22, coinciding with the implementation of the new slab rates.
He added that abolishing slabs on critical illnesses and life-saving medications will have a direct impact on the populace. The removal of slabs on health insurance and reductions on kitchen essentials are also noteworthy. This reform signifies India’s shift towards self-sufficiency and will encourage public support for local products.
On the other hand, Congress leader Subodh Kant Sahay sharply criticized the GST slab reforms, stating that it took the government 12 years to act, during which the economy suffered. He referred to Rahul Gandhi’s initial opposition and remarked that GST was introduced with a dramatic midnight announcement.
He asserted that the GST slabs were complicated, negatively impacting the economy. He claimed that the latest reforms stemmed from Rahul Gandhi’s inquiries and pressure, emphasizing that this decision was not a product of the government’s economic policy but rather a response to that pressure.
