Kolkata, May 24 (NationPress) Investigations are currently underway regarding the connections to Pakistan of one of the three Indian affiliates of the Bangladesh-based Islamist group Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB). These individuals were previously apprehended by the Special Task Force (STF) of the West Bengal Police.

According to sources, coded encrypted messages retrieved from the mobile devices of Aazmal Hossain and Saheb Ali Khan, who were detained in Birbhum district earlier this month, indicate affiliations solely with members of Bangladesh-based extremist organizations, namely JMB, Hizb-ut-Tahrir (HUT), and Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT).

However, it was reported that similar coded and encrypted communications found on the phone of the third apprehended local JMB affiliate, Abasuddin Molla, reveal his ongoing interactions with individuals in Pakistan, as well as connections with the Jammu and Kashmir-associated group Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind.

Molla was taken into custody from Paturi village in the minority-heavy Diamond Harbour area of South 24 Parganas district in West Bengal, just one day following the arrest of the other two suspects from Birbhum.

Law enforcement officials have recently informed a district court in Birbhum about their preliminary discoveries regarding these suspects, based on both interrogations and the encrypted messages obtained from their mobile devices.

According to the sources, the investigation team is currently questioning the trio to uncover details about their recruitment efforts for JMB sleeper cells within the state.

Recently, the Union Home Ministry received intelligence indicating the potential involvement of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in the unrest and destruction occurring in the minority-populated Murshidabad district due to violent protests against the newly enacted Waqf (Amendment) Act.

The intelligence report highlighted the involvement of JMB, HUT, and ABT. However, given the geographical context of the regions experiencing heightened tension and violence, particularly Samserganj, the likelihood of ABT playing a role in the recent disturbances appears more plausible.

To the east of the international boundaries at Samserganj and Dhulian lies the Bangladeshi district of Chapai-Nawabganj, recognized as the stronghold of ABT.

The sources suggest that due to this geographical proximity, the possibility of ABT being implicated in the latest incidents in Murshidabad is highly probable.

Point of View

It is crucial to recognize the ongoing threats posed by extremist groups and their transnational connections. The investigation into the JMB's links to Pakistan highlights the necessity for vigilant security measures. Our nation must remain steadfast in combating radicalization and protecting our communities from external influences.
