Bhopal, March 31 (NationPress) The Eid-ul-Fitr festivities in Madhya Pradesh, particularly in the state capital Bhopal, unfolded under stringent police watch on Monday. A large number of individuals from the Muslim community assembled at Eidgah Maidan to participate in namaz (prayers) peacefully.
Nevertheless, the display of Palestinian flags by certain attendees during this significant gathering incited a political uproar in the state, receiving harsh backlash from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which labeled it as 'objectionable' and 'offensive.'
Senior BJP figure and Madhya Pradesh cabinet minister Vishwas Sarang vehemently denounced the action, cautioning that such demonstrations would be deemed intolerable within the state.
In a statement to IANS, Sarang remarked, 'This type of behavior signifies the mentality of those who perpetually seek to instigate turmoil in society. Such actions appear to be intentional, and the government must pinpoint and pursue legal measures against those accountable for this.'
Sarang, who represents the Narela Assembly constituency of Bhopal and oversees the state's sports and youth welfare department, questioned the rationale behind showcasing Palestinian banners during a religious observance.
'What is the significance of Palestinian flags or banners during Eid? This is evidently an effort to incite discord in society, and such conduct should not be tolerated,' he told IANS.
Adding to the controversy, Sarang criticized the opposition Congress party, accusing them of fostering what he described as 'anti-national' endeavors.
'Everyone saw when Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi entered Parliament carrying a handbag adorned with the term ‘Palestine’ and Palestinian symbols. This illustrates the type of mindset that Congress promotes, which is why the populace has turned away from them,' he remarked.
The incident has stirred significant debate within the state, with BJP leaders stressing the necessity for stringent repercussions, while opposition representatives have yet to respond to the claims.
