Bhopal, March 4 (NationPress) In a shocking and tragic event, an innocent passenger lost his life, and several others sustained injuries when unidentified assailants commenced stone pelting at a moving bus in the Chorhata police station vicinity of Rewa town.
This incident transpired on Monday evening. As reported by the police, the victim, a physiotherapist, was caught in the crossfire of fierce competition among private bus operators.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Urban), Anil Sonkar informed IANS that three masked bikers suddenly emerged and aimed to damage the bus’s windscreen by hurling stones, intending to inflict financial harm on the bus operator.
Such incidents frequently remain unreported, he noted. The event took place shortly after the private bus, traveling from Rewa to Indore, had just begun its journey at around 7 p.m. on Monday.
The masked riders targeted the bus, with two of them throwing stones. One of these stones tragically struck Hiralal, a passenger seated near the driver, directly in the head.
The blow resulted in severe bleeding, and despite immediate medical attention, he could not be saved.
The police promptly initiated a search for the assailants, with Sonkar asserting their impending capture.
He mentioned that video evidence had been secured, and other passengers, along with local bus operators, are being questioned.
The investigation is moving rapidly, with hopes of apprehending the culprits soon.
Sonkar confirmed that no other passengers, apart from the driver and the deceased, were injured in the incident. The driver is currently undergoing treatment and is in stable condition.
Hiralal, the victim, hailed from Indore and was employed at the Community Health Center in Sirmaur, Rewa district. He was traveling to Indore to visit family during his vacation.
The police verified that the incident occurred within the jurisdiction of the Chorhata police station, close to the Railway station in Rewa.
Hiralal's remains have been placed in the morgue, with a post-mortem examination scheduled for Tuesday.
A similar occurrence took place in western Madhya Pradesh a few years back when a bus operator set a moving bus ablaze, tragically resulting in the deaths of several innocent passengers.
