Mumbai, Feb 25 (NationPress) The meeting between Jayant Patil, the Chief of the NCP-SP in Maharashtra led by Sharad Pawar, and Chandrashekhar Bawankule, the state BJP Chief and Revenue Minister, has stirred considerable excitement in the state's political landscape.

The two leaders engaged in an hour-long discussion on Monday night, amidst media speculation regarding Patil's silence following the party's recent electoral defeats, and rumors of his potential shift to the BJP.

Notably, Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil, the Water Resources Minister overseeing the Godavari and Krishna Valley Development Corporations, was also in attendance.

Patil, however, emphasized that their meeting was not politically motivated, stating it was focused on issues concerning his Islampur Assembly constituency. He remarked, "I met Bawankule for matters related to the Revenue department from my constituency. We discussed various issues in this regard."

In a similar vein, Bawankule confirmed that the meeting was for personal matters.

The NCP-SP State President has consistently reiterated his commitment to Sharad Pawar and expressed his intention to remain with him.

After Ajit Pawar left the NCP to join the MahaYuti government in July 2023, Jayant Patil opted to stay loyal to Sharad Pawar, maintaining his leadership role in the newly formed NCP-SP and actively campaigning during the Lok Sabha elections, where the party secured eight seats out of ten contested.

Subsequently, Patil undertook the Shivswarajya Yatra in preparation for the previous year's state Assembly elections.

He also engaged extensively in campaigning for party candidates during those elections.

Ultimately, the NCP-SP won only 10 seats after contesting 87 in the Maha Vikas Aghadi during the Assembly elections.

Following the party's poor performance, Pawar and Patil convened with elected legislators and MPs, including those who lost in both the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.

During this meeting, some party members called for Pawar to consider replacing Patil with a new state unit chief. Others pressed for a reorganization of the state executive and changes in the leadership of frontal organizations ahead of the approaching local and civic body elections. Despite Pawar's commitment to an organizational overhaul, Patil continues to lead the state unit.
