Kolkata, May 31 (NationPress) Pirzada Amin, the general secretary of the Basirhat Allama Ruhul Amin R Foundation, a non-profit organization based in Basirhat, located in the North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, officially became a member of the Congress Party on Saturday.
Recently, he was involved in protests against the new Waqf (Amendment) Act.
A statement from Congress revealed that Amin was welcomed into the party by Ghulam Ahmed Mir, the general secretary in charge of West Bengal at the All India Congress Committee, along with Pawan Khera, who heads the media and publicity department, Subhankar Sarkar, the state Congress president, and Subrata Dutta, the head of Mahila Congress, all at the AICC office in New Delhi.
The statement characterized Amin as a committed social activist. Khera noted that Amin hails from a prominent family in West Bengal, which also has considerable influence in Odisha and Tripura.
Additionally, Khera mentioned that Amin's family has historically contributed to the Muslim renaissance and has addressed various injustices affecting their community.
“Their contributions to education are noteworthy, having established hospitals and technical institutes while also engaging in research,” Khera's statement elaborated.
Mir expressed that Amin's family has been steadfast in their commitment to serving both society and religion over the years. Amin expressed his gratitude to the party leadership for their trust and emphasized that the Congress is the only party that embraces all individuals without any form of discrimination.
