Kolkata, May 31 (NationPress) Pirzada Amin, the general secretary of Basirhat Allama Ruhul Amin R Foundation, a non-profit organization based in Basirhat, located in the North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, officially joined the Congress Party on Saturday.
Recently, he has been active in opposing the newly enacted Waqf (Amendment) Act.
A statement from the Congress party revealed that Amin's induction was facilitated by Ghulam Ahmed Mir, general secretary of the All India Congress Committee (in charge of West Bengal), along with Pawan Khera, chairman of the AICC’s media and publicity department, Subhankar Sarkar, the state Congress president, and Subrata Dutta, head of the state Mahila Congress, at the AICC office in New Delhi.
In this announcement, Amin was highlighted as a dedicated social activist. Khera noted that Amin hails from a prominent family in West Bengal, well-respected and influential in both Odisha and Tripura.
Khera further mentioned that Amin's family has significantly contributed to the Muslim renaissance and has addressed various injustices faced by the community.
“They have also played a vital role in enhancing education within society by establishing hospitals, technical institutes, and engaging in research,” the statement quoted Khera.
Mir emphasized that Amin's family has long been committed to societal and religious service. Amin expressed his gratitude to the party leaders for their trust in him, asserting that the Congress is the only party that unites people without any form of discrimination.
