Goddess Katyayani, a powerful aspect of Mahadevi, is venerated as the vanquisher of the demon Mahishasura. She ranks sixth among the Navadurgas, the nine forms of Goddess Durga celebrated during Navratri.
As per the Amarakosha, the Sanskrit lexicon, Katyayani is also known as the second name of Goddess Adi Parashakti.
She is depicted with three eyes and four arms, wielding a sword and a lotus in her left hand, while her right hands are positioned in 'varada mudra' (bestowing boons) and 'abhaya mudra' (granting protection). She rides a lion, adorned with a crescent moon on her forehead.
Navratri, translating to 'nine nights' in Sanskrit, is a revered Hindu festival commemorating Goddess Durga and her nine incarnations, collectively known as Navdurga.
The festival is celebrated with immense devotion throughout India, featuring rituals and prayers that honor the Goddess in her diverse forms.
