New Delhi, Aug 6 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during the inauguration of the newly built Kartavya Bhawan in central Delhi, strongly criticized former administrations for enabling what he described as one of the largest beneficiary frauds in the nation's history.
Emphasizing the revolutionary influence of the JAM trinity—Jan Dhan, Aadhaar, and Mobile—the Prime Minister disclosed that approximately 10 crore fake beneficiaries had been detected and eliminated from several welfare programs.
"Citizens are astonished to discover that over 10 crore beneficiaries listed under government schemes were never real," PM Modi remarked.
According to the Prime Minister, the cleanup initiative—driven by JAM—has plugged significant leaks, resulting in savings of more than Rs 4.3 lakh crore of taxpayer money. "Imagine the extent of the theft happening. Today, this money is being redirected towards genuine development, benefiting actual recipients," he stated.
Names were falsified for various services, including ration cards, LPG subsidies, and scholarships. These fraudulent entries served as tools for middlemen to siphon public funds, the PM highlighted. PM Modi accentuated that this transformation was not solely about combating corruption, but also about enhancing the effectiveness and delivery of government programs.
“Beyond tackling leakages and corruption, outdated and unnecessary laws acted as barriers to governance. We have eliminated over 1,500 obsolete laws, many dating back to the British era, and addressed over 40,000 compliance challenges," he continued.
Discussing measures to boost government efficiency, PM Modi referenced the reorganization of ministries, the termination of overlapping roles, and the establishment of new departments, including the Ministry of Jal Shakti and the Ministry of Fisheries. He also mentioned initiatives like Mission Karmayogi, which aims to technologically empower government officials.
Encouraging officials attending the event, the PM expressed that the new building should foster a renewed mindset.
“A single file may seem routine to us, but for someone, it could represent a matter of life and hope.”
He also declared plans to transform the North and South Blocks into public museums, showcasing the evolution of India's administration.
