Key Takeaways
Raipur, Nov 28 (NationPress) The arrival of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Chhattisgarh's capital, Raipur, on Friday evening has ignited a vibrant political atmosphere, marking his second trip to the state in a matter of weeks and his inaugural overnight stay spanning three consecutive days.
Landing at Swami Vivekananda Airport (Mana) around 7 PM after a series of engagements in Karnataka and Goa, he received a warm welcome from Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai, Governor Raman Deka, Deputy CMs Arun Sao and Vijay Sharma, alongside numerous cabinet ministers.
Senior leaders of the BJP, including state president Kiran Singh Deo, former Chief Minister Raman Singh, and MLAs Rajesh Munat and Purandar Mishra, were also present for the reception.
This significant visit aligns with the commencement of the 60th All-India Conference of Directors General and Inspectors General of Police (DGP-IGP) at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) campus in Naya Raipur.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who arrived earlier, officially inaugurated the three-day conference (November 28-30), attended by notable figures such as National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, IB Director Tapan Deka, and Home Secretary Govind Mohan, along with the heads of state police forces and central agencies.
Raipur has been fortified with extensive security measures by the Special Protection Group (SPG), NSG commandos, CRPF, and the state police, incorporating drone surveillance and traffic diversions.
Following his arrival, PM Modi proceeded directly to the Speaker's Bhavan in Naya Raipur, where he will oversee the business and concluding sessions of the conference scheduled for November 29-30.
The agenda will address pivotal internal security issues, including combating Left-Wing Extremism (LWE) in Bastar, where recent joint operations have significantly reduced Naxal strength, alongside discussions on cybercrime, narcotics trafficking, border management, and the introduction of new criminal laws.
States will showcase innovative approaches to crime control, with Chhattisgarh being highlighted as a model for LWE eradication.
Since 2014, PM Modi has been noted for his proactive engagement during these meetings, dedicating substantial time to foster open discussions on contemporary policing. He will also be presenting the President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service.
This iteration's hosting in Chhattisgarh, only the second time for the state, underscores its crucial role in national security.
Following his arrival, PM Modi tweeted: "After two very special programs in Karnataka and Goa, I have landed in Chhattisgarh to participate in the DGP/IGP Conference... Extensive interactions with top officials will focus on strengthening India's security framework."
The event will wrap up on Sunday evening, after which PM Modi will return to Delhi.
