New Delhi, July 19 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday praised the involvement of Chief Justice of India (CJI) B.R. Gavai and various Supreme Court judges in the 'Ek Ped Ma Ke Naam' initiative in Delhi, expressing hope that it will invigorate the green movement.
In a message shared on X, PM Modi referred to the participation of CJI Gavai and the other judges as ‘inspirational’.
“The engagement of esteemed judges in Van Mahotsav is motivational for all. I am optimistic that the ‘One Tree in the Name of Mother’ campaign will gather new energy from this,” PM Modi conveyed in a Hindi message.
Previously, CJI Gavai emphasized the significance of safeguarding the environment and urged for cooperative efforts to purify Delhi’s air.
While addressing a crowd during a plantation drive organized by the Delhi government, the CJI remarked, “Development is crucial, but we must recognize the costs associated with it.”
“As October approaches, concerns arise... Forests, integral to humanity's heritage, are not solely ours; they are also for future generations. They are essential in mitigating Delhi's pollution,” he added.
CJI Gavai stated that the Supreme Court has consistently highlighted the importance of sustainable development and provided landmark guidelines on pollution management.
Earlier, the CJI, accompanied by 20 Supreme Court judges, participated in the Delhi government's extensive plantation drive under Van Mahotsav 2025 at Delhi Ridge.
The judges were joined by Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa.
Minister Sirsa noted that the involvement of the CJI and other judges in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Ek Ped Ma Ke Naam' campaign underscores the necessity for collective action to restore Delhi's greenery and reclaim clean air.
He mentioned it was an emotional experience for both the judges and Delhi government officials when they planted saplings in honor of their mothers.
“The location where the CJI and other judges planted the saplings will be developed into Nyay Vatika,” Sirsa informed IANS.
The Minister characterized the participation in Van Mahotsav 2025 by the CJI, along with his spouse, as a significant milestone in the city’s battle against pollution. “The CJI’s presence illustrates the value he places on each individual tree,” he remarked.
On Friday, resonating with the spirit of 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also planted saplings.
During the event, she encouraged Delhi residents to engage in the movement by planting more trees in their homes, neighborhoods, schools, workplaces, and community areas.
