Bilaspur, March 30 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the foundation stone for Sipat stage-III, an innovative 800 MW ultra-supercritical power unit on Sunday, by remotely pressing a button during a ceremony in Mohbhatta village, Bilaspur district, Chhattisgarh.
This ambitious project is located within the vast premises of the Sipat Super Thermal Power Station in Sipat town, Bilaspur district, Chhattisgarh. With an investment of Rs 9,791 crore, this project showcases state-of-the-art technology aimed at improving fuel efficiency while significantly lowering emissions.
Upon completion, the total installed capacity of the station will increase to an impressive 3,780 MW, meeting the rising power needs of the Central Region, which includes beneficiary states like Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Goa, and the host state of Chhattisgarh.

These deals involve the establishment of nuclear energy capabilities, pumped hydro storage systems, and renewable energy projects powered by solar, wind, and hybrid sources. The nuclear capacity expansion will contribute 4,200 MW in Chhattisgarh with an estimated investment of Rs 80,000 crore.
Furthermore, NTPC and Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company Limited (CSPGCL) are collaborating to develop a 1,200 MW pumped hydro storage project in Gariyaband district with an investment of Rs 5,876 crore. Additionally, NGEL and CSPGCL will work on renewable energy projects totaling 2 GW at an approximate cost of Rs 10,000 crore, aiding the state’s Renewable Generation and Purchase Obligations.
The agreements were formalized in the presence of Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and senior officials from both NTPC and the state government, marking a pivotal advancement in India's energy transition and pursuit of its Net Zero objectives.
