New Delhi, Aug 18 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Maharashtra Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan, who has been named the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate for the upcoming Vice Presidential election.
In a post on the platform X, PM Modi stated: "Had the privilege of meeting Thiru C.P. Radhakrishnan Ji. I expressed my heartfelt wishes on his nomination as the NDA’s Vice-Presidential candidate. His extensive years of public service and diverse experience will significantly benefit our nation. I hope he continues to serve with the same unwavering dedication and commitment he has always shown."
Radhakrishnan also shared his thoughts about the meeting on X, expressing: "I feel blessed and honored to meet our beloved people's leader, the esteemed Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji today in New Delhi."
Earlier on that day, the BJP congratulated Radhakrishnan on his nomination and expressed gratitude to PM Modi for selecting a candidate from the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category. The Vice Presidential election is set for September 9.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar praised the BJP’s choice to nominate Radhakrishnan, stating on X: "The decision to nominate Maharashtra Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan as the NDA candidate for Vice President is commendable. The JD-U will support C.P. Radhakrishnan. Best wishes to him."
The support from JD-U is crucial, as the party holds 12 seats in the Lok Sabha and four in the Rajya Sabha, all likely to favor the NDA candidate in the election.
Meanwhile, Congress General Secretary, Organisation, K.C. Venugopal, announced that the INDIA bloc will reveal its Vice-Presidential candidate later today, with discussions ongoing among alliance partners.
In a move to rally broader support for Radhakrishnan’s candidacy, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh contacted Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin over the phone. Singh, responsible for liaising with key opposition figures, encouraged Stalin and the DMK to back the NDA nominee.
Radhakrishnan, a veteran BJP leader from Tamil Nadu, was selected following discussions among Prime Minister Modi, BJP President J.P. Nadda, and other senior party officials.
The 67-year-old leader has held two terms in the Lok Sabha representing Coimbatore and is currently serving as the Governor of Maharashtra. Known for his long-standing ties with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the BJP, Radhakrishnan is respected as a grassroots leader with profound organizational skills and a reputation for integrity.
