He extended heartfelt condolences to Thailand's King, the Royal Family, and the people of Thailand following the demise of Queen Sirikit.
This message from PM Modi came shortly after the Royal Household Bureau announced that the Queen Mother had passed away at 93 in the King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital on Friday.
"I am profoundly saddened by the loss of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, The Queen Mother of Thailand. Her lifelong commitment to public service will inspire generations to come. My sincere condolences to His Majesty The King, the Royal Family, and the people of Thailand during this time of deep sorrow," PM Modi shared on X.
An official statement from the Bureau of the Royal Household indicated that a team of doctors had been caring for the Queen Mother since September 7, 2019, and noted that she suffered from multiple illnesses requiring ongoing medical treatment, as reported by Xinhua News Agency.
On October 17, the Queen Mother developed a bloodstream infection. Despite the medical team's diligent efforts, her health declined, leading to her peaceful passing at 9:21 p.m. (local time) on Friday.
In response, King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua has instructed the relevant bureau to organize the Queen Mother’s royal funeral. Her remains will be enshrined at the Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall in the Grand Palace in Bangkok. Additionally, the King has decreed a one-year period of mourning to be observed by the royal family and court officials from the date of the Queen Mother’s passing.
