Chennai, March 26 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to unveil the newly built Pamban railway bridge in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, on April 6, which aligns with the significant occasion of Ram Navami.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, R.N. Singh, the General Manager of Southern Railway, confirmed that senior railway officials have been carrying out thorough inspections of both the bridge and the Rameswaram railway station in anticipation of this event.

This year, April 6 falls on a Sunday, and it is celebrated nationwide as Ram Navami, commemorating the birth of Lord Rama. The occasion lends a spiritual essence to the Prime Minister's visit, as he is expected to also visit the famous Ramanathaswamy Temple in Rameswaram.

Sources from Southern Railway indicate that the inauguration ceremony will see the attendance of numerous dignitaries, including Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, Governor R.N. Ravi, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, various Members of Parliament and Legislative Assembly from Tamil Nadu, senior BJP leaders, and party workers.

Later that day, Prime Minister Modi is anticipated to address a public gathering before heading to Delhi from Madurai Airport.

To guarantee the seamless execution of this high-profile event, authorities have already conducted three full-scale rehearsals.

On March 22, a senior team led by Additional General Manager Kaushal Kishore performed a detailed evaluation of key locations in Rameswaram and Pamban, assessing both logistical and security preparations.

This team, which included Madurai Divisional Railway Manager Sharad Srivastava and other senior officials, inspected critical sites such as the Rameswaram temple grounds, Mandapam camp helipad, Kunthukal, Mandapam railway station, and the Pamban Road bridge.

The evaluations were conducted to ensure all arrangements were set for a flawless inauguration.

Following the site assessments, Kishore chaired a high-level review meeting with top railway officials, law enforcement agencies, and both state and central intelligence representatives.

This meeting concentrated on finalizing security protocols, managing crowd strategies, and coordinating event logistics to ensure a secure and successful inauguration.

The new Pamban railway bridge spans 2.1 km and is a notable engineering achievement. Originally commissioned in February 2019, its construction was completed in November 2024.

A significant feature of the bridge is its vertical lift span, weighing 660 metric tons, which can rise vertically to facilitate ship passage—an innovation developed entirely with indigenous technology.

The bridge serves as a symbol of India’s advancing infrastructure capabilities and will improve connectivity to the sacred island of Rameswaram, making travel more efficient for countless pilgrims and tourists.
