PM Modi Unveils Jammu Railway Division, Marks a Significant Step in J&K's Railway Integration

Jammu, Jan 6 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Monday, held a virtual inauguration of the new Jammu Railway Division, describing it as a significant achievement.

"The inauguration of the Jammu railway division represents a landmark achievement in the seamless integration of J&K into the national railway framework, as well as in the enhancement of infrastructure and connectivity within the region," he stated.

The Prime Minister emphasized that this new division positions Indian Railways as a global frontrunner.

Referring to the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) as an engineering marvel, PM Modi highlighted that the country’s first cable-stayed rail bridge, the Anji Khad Bridge, along with the iconic arch bridge spanning the Chenab River, which holds the title of the world’s tallest railway bridge, are remarkable examples of engineering excellence and efficiency showcased by Indian Railways.

He noted that the USBRL stands as a testament to India’s dedication to the principle of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’.

“The Jammu Railway Division is set to benefit not just Jammu and Kashmir, but will also serve the interests of neighboring Punjab, Ladakh, and Himachal Pradesh,” PM Modi remarked.

He emphasized that for a truly developed Bharat, railway development is crucial. “This understanding has driven transformational changes in Indian Railways over the past decade, enhancing modernization, facilities, and connectivity,” he added.

The Prime Minister declared that the inauguration of the Jammu Railway Division is evidence that the nation is making progress.

“In the last ten years, we have laid down 30,000 km of railway track and have achieved nearly 100% electrification of rail lines, in contrast to just 35% in 2014. The modernization of Indian Railways has unlocked numerous new opportunities for trade, employment, education, and business. Over the past decade, lakhs of youth have found employment within the railways, and initiatives like the Gati Shakti University will further boost employment prospects,” PM Modi stated.

He disclosed that more than 50 Vande Bharat trains are currently operational, significantly reducing travel times for passengers. Referring to the metro rail expansion now covering 21 cities, he mentioned that the advent of bullet trains in the nation is not far off.

"The initiation of rail infrastructure projects in Jammu-Kashmir, Telangana, and Odisha is set to enhance tourism and foster socio-economic development in these areas," PM Modi shared on his X handle.

Among those present in Jammu during the virtual inauguration were Minister of State (PMO) and Lok Sabha member from Udhampur constituency Dr. Jitendra Singh, J&K Lt Governor Manoj Singh, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Lok Sabha member from Jammu constituency Jugal Kishore Sharma, and senior officials from civil, police, and railway administrations.
