Key Takeaways
New Delhi, April 13 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the national-level 'Nari Shakti Vandan Sammelan' on Monday, announcing that Parliament is poised to undertake a historic decision by introducing amendments to the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam in the coming days.
Speaking at the Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi, the Prime Minister began by honoring the martyrs of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre and extended Baisakhi greetings to the citizens.
During this event, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta introduced a toll-free number—9667173333—for individuals to provide a missed call in support of the Modi government's Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam Bills.
On the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, PM Modi stated, "India is on the brink of making one of the most pivotal decisions of the 21st century; I assert this with a profound sense of responsibility. This decision honors Nari Shakti and Nari Shakti Vandan."
He emphasized, "Our Parliament is about to enact a momentous decision, which will give tangible form to historical concepts and fulfill future aspirations. This resolve is embedded in equality, where social justice transcends mere rhetoric to become an essential facet of our work culture and decision-making methodologies."
Referring to the upcoming dates of April 16-18, he remarked, "The wait of decades will conclude at the State Assemblies and the Parliament."
The Prime Minister reminded attendees that in 2023, the first step towards the Nari Shakti Adhiniyam took place in the new Parliament building.
"For timely implementation, women's involvement strengthens our democracy. We have convened a special Parliament session," he stated.
The Sammelan welcomed a multitude of esteemed personalities and women achievers from various fields, including government, academia, science, sports, entrepreneurship, media, social work, and culture.
The event aimed to unite a diverse array of stakeholders to discuss the significance of women in India's development trajectory.
While addressing the assembly, PM Modi remarked, "Through this gathering, we are receiving the blessings of mothers and sisters from across the country. I am here not to instruct or awaken you, but to request your blessings. Your presence from various regions is greatly appreciated."
He noted, "The demand for women's reservation has been felt for decades, and discussions have taken place. Over 40 years have been dedicated to this matter. Every political party and several generations have contributed to this cause. When the Nari Shakti Adhiniyam was introduced in 2023, it received unanimous support from all political factions who then called for its implementation before 2029."
The Prime Minister deemed it "unacceptable" for a Bill to be passed without subsequent implementation. Referring to the Opposition's position, he highlighted that they were also "very vocal" about the need for swift implementation.
"Considering the 2029 deadline and the Opposition's requests, we have engaged in extensive consultations and now call for a special discussion on this topic in Parliament. We aim for this process to be characterized by dialogue, support, and consensus. I am confident that just as the Adhiniyam was passed, the Parliamentary tradition will reach new heights this time as well," PM Modi concluded.
He added, "The women of our nation will take solace in knowing that this crucial decision has been made in their favor."
This program is part of the central government's broader initiative towards women-led development, emphasizing the need for increased female involvement in decision-making roles.
The event follows the landmark approval of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam in September 2023, which represents a significant advancement in enhancing women's representation within legislative bodies.
The legislation mandates one-third reservation for women in both the Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assemblies, a transformative step for India's political landscape.
