Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chamoli (Uttarakhand), Feb 4 (NationPress) The Prime Minister’s Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFMPE) scheme is proving to be a vital lifeline for small-scale and household food entrepreneurs in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district, aiding them in modernising their businesses and achieving self-reliance.
Launched by the Central government, the PMFMPE scheme seeks to formalise micro food processing units nationwide through financial assistance, skill development, and market support, while fostering self-employment in rural regions. Beneficiaries under this scheme can receive up to 35 percent credit-linked subsidy, facilitating the upgrade of equipment and expansion of their operations.
This initiative extends focused support to businesses involved in pickles, spices, baked goods, pulses, dairy products, coarse grains, and traditional local foods. In addition to financial support, beneficiaries are also provided with training, branding, packaging, and marketing assistance to enhance their competitiveness in broader markets.
A significant aspect of the PMFMPE scheme is the ‘One District One Product’ (ODOP) initiative, which promotes unique traditional products from each district. This initiative aims to create local job opportunities while bolstering the rural economy.
Officials have stated that this scheme is crucial in promoting grassroots entrepreneurship and reducing reliance on traditional livelihoods, especially in hilly areas like Chamoli.
Devraj Singh, a beneficiary, expressed that the PMFMPE scheme has allowed him to initiate his own livelihood and achieve economic independence. He is now involved in selling spices, flour, and other locally sourced products, witnessing consistent profits.
“Thanks to this initiative, we have accomplished so much. We received a flour mill and a spice grinding unit through this scheme initiated by the Prime Minister. This endeavor has been ongoing for the past six months,” Devraj Singh shared, conveying his appreciation to the Central government.
The government is optimistic that the PMFMPE scheme will not only fortify the rural economy but also empower small entrepreneurs to play a significant role in India’s overall economic development.
