New Delhi, Jan 23 (NationPress) Delhi Chief Minister Atishi has sent a letter to the Election Commission of India (ECI) claiming that instead of addressing the threats, intimidation, and abuse complaints, the police have been approaching AAP volunteers to dismiss cases against BJP members.
In her correspondence to the election authority on Wednesday, she asserted that Investigating Officers (IOs) Jai Bhagwan and Sushil Sharma met with AAP volunteers Vijeta, Rekha Bassi, and Deepa Deol, instructing them to sign statements asserting that no violence or intimidation had occurred while pressuring them to comply.
Atishi accused the police of acting in connivance and attempting to close the complaint against BJP workers without conducting a thorough investigation, stating that AAP volunteers were willing to provide written statements in the presence of their advocate.
However, she alleged that the police coerced the volunteers into signing incomplete and false statements.
According to her, the police officers even tore up the statements when the volunteers raised objections.
Atishi alleged collusion involving both the local SHO and the IO, requesting the transfer of Govindpuri SHO Dharamveer, as well as Investigating Officers Sushil Sharma and Jai Bhagwan from Assembly constituency number 51.
She also demanded an investigation by police officials who have never been stationed in the South Delhi parliamentary constituency where Ramesh Bidhuri has served as MP for the past decade.
This marks Atishi's second letter to the election panel within the week.
On Tuesday, she reported that AAP workers and volunteers faced abuse, intimidation, and threats from BJP workers in the Govindpuri area of Kalkaji.
In her complaint to the ECI, Atishi also mentioned BJP candidate Ramesh Bidhuri for his purportedly derogatory remarks against her.
She stated that volunteers such as Rakha Bassi, Sanjay Gupta, Aradhna, Sumita Pandey, Sher Singh, and Hari Shankar Gupta were also subjected to intimidation by the BJP.
