New Delhi, Jan 19 (NationPress) Delhi Chief Minister Atishi on Sunday accused the BJP of attempting to orchestrate an attack on Arvind Kejriwal by sending criminals to harm him. The opposition party has dismissed these allegations as mere tactics to lay the groundwork for the AAP's anticipated defeat.
The reported stone attack on Kejriwal's vehicle in the New Delhi constituency on Saturday has escalated tensions between the AAP and the BJP as the Assembly elections approach, with both sides trading accusations of dishonesty. The Delhi Police refuted claims of any attack on Kejriwal's car.
In response to the AAP's assertions, the BJP contended that Kejriwal had harmed two young men with his car while they were inquiring about the development in Delhi on Saturday in the Gole Market area.
During a press briefing on Sunday, BJP candidate for the New Delhi seat, Parvesh Verma, presented four videos to illustrate that no attack occurred on Kejriwal in the Gole Market, despite the AAP's insistence that a stone was hurled at the former chief minister's vehicle.
Parvesh Verma remarked, "If Kejriwal labels those questioning him as BJP goons or members of his (Parvesh's) family, then the 1,09,000 voters in the New Delhi Assembly constituency are akin to his family members."
On Sunday, CM Atishi released images and identities of three individuals she alleged were criminals with serious charges against them and who were present during the purported attempt on Kejriwal's life in Gole Market.
She called for immediate action by election officials and police against these individuals for the supposed assassination attempt on Kejriwal.
"What were criminals doing at the campaign rally for the BJP candidate?" questioned Atishi, asserting that the entire incident of stone-throwing had been captured on video.
AAP MP Sanjay Singh alleged that criminals were campaigning for Parvesh Verma and that the Delhi Police were involved in a plot to eliminate Kejriwal before the elections.
"No individual has been apprehended for this alleged assassination attempt on Kejriwal yet," said Singh, casting doubt on the impartiality of election officials.
Parvesh Verma retaliated against the AAP for disseminating falsehoods regarding the supposed attack on Kejriwal, stating that the AAP shows little regard for human life, having failed to apologize to the two youths nearly injured by the former chief minister’s vehicle on Saturday.
Following the incident, Parvesh Verma posted on X, "Both were transported to Lady Hardinge Hospital. In the face of impending defeat, he has forgotten the value of people's lives. I am heading to the hospital."
The Delhi Assembly elections to choose 70 representatives are set for February 5, with results to be announced on February 8.
