Jammu, July 10 (NationPress) A significant haul of arms and ammunition was seized on Thursday by security forces during a Cordon & Search Operation (CASO) in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.
According to officials, a CASO was initiated in the Khanetar Top area of Poonch based on specific intelligence reports.
An official mentioned that the intelligence had suggested a probable presence of a terror consignment in the vicinity.
“During the operation, the joint team recovered two pistols along with two magazines, 24 rounds of 9mm ammunition, one Under Barrel Grenade Launcher (UBGL), six hand grenades, two Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), and an electronic set,” he stated.
The official indicated that the seized weapons and ammunition seem to be part of a larger network involved in arms smuggling, which is aimed at reviving terrorism in the region.
“The discovery of IEDs and an electronic device implies that the terrorists may have been planning an attack,” the official added.
Following the April 22 terror incident in Baisaran meadow of Pahalgam, where Pakistan-backed LeT terrorists murdered 26 civilians based on their religion, security forces have escalated operations against terrorists, their Over Ground Workers (OGWs), and sympathizers.
According to intelligence agencies, the OGWs network provides logistical support, shelter, reconnaissance, and more for the terrorists.
During a security review meeting, the Lieutenant Governor of J&K instructed security forces and the J&K Police to dismantle the terrorism ecosystem, which consists of terrorists, OGWs, sympathizers, drug traffickers, and hawala money operators.
Intelligence agencies report that proceeds from drug trafficking and hawala money schemes are ultimately utilized to fund terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.
In the aftermath of the Pahalgam attack, Prime Minister Narendra Modi granted armed forces a free hand to retaliate for the Pahalgam attack.
The armed forces conducted target-specific strikes against terror infrastructure in Muridke near Lahore, Bahawalpur, Kotli, and Muzaffarabad in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
