Gurugram, May 6 (NationPress) The government of Haryana has appointed Pradeep Dahiya, an officer of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), as the new Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) during a recent bureaucratic reshuffle conducted on Tuesday, as confirmed by officials.
The officer, who is a member of the 2013 IAS batch, previously held the position of Deputy Commissioner (DC) for the Jhajjar district.
In addition to Jhajjar, Dahiya has also been the Deputy Commissioner for the Nuh, Kaithal, and Hisar districts within the state.
Furthermore, he has taken on roles such as the administrator (headquarters) for the Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) located in Panchkula and has worked as the Additional Director in the Urban Estate Department.
His predecessor, Ashok Garg, who previously served as Commissioner of MCG, will now transition to the role of Divisional Commissioner in Hisar, and Swapnil Ravindra Patil, who was the Additional Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation of Faridabad, will take over as the new Deputy Commissioner for Jhajjar.
Garg had been embroiled in controversies, particularly following the appointment of Gurugram Mayor Raj Rani Malhotra's husband as an advisor on April 21, a decision that faced backlash from various quarters, including the Congress. Consequently, this appointment was retracted on April 29.
A subsequent controversy arose after significant rainfall on Friday morning resulted in extensive waterlogging, flooding major thoroughfares and displacing trees.
The Haryana Minister Rao Narbir Singh personally inspected the waterlogged areas to evaluate the situation in the MCG region and expressed his dissatisfaction with the MCG officials.
The Minister's inspection included visits to Sikandarpur, Sectors 27, 28, 43, 51, 54, 56, Shiv Nadar School Road, Wazirabad, Artemis Hospital Red Light, Mayfield Garden, Tau Devi Lal Stadium, Marble Market Sector-34, Hero Honda Chowk, Narsinghpur, Manesar Drain, Gadoli Culvert, Basai Chowk, Mata Road, Old Delhi Road, Sector-31 Atlantis Road, and Rajiv Chowk.
He has instructed Corporation Commissioner Ashok Garg and GMDA officials to assign responsibility to one officer for each identified waterlogging location in Gurugram, ensuring that appropriate actions can be taken against the concerned officer in the event of similar situations arising during the rainy season.
