New Delhi, Feb 10 (NationPress) Union Minister of Railways and Electronics and IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw, announced on Monday that approximately 330 trains from eight distinct stations in the Prayagraj region successfully transported 12.5 lakh passengers back to their homes on Sunday.
Emphasizing that the Indian Railways is operating at full capacity to facilitate the smooth arrival and departure of devotees during the ongoing Mahakumbh, the minister highlighted that even with the persistent influx of pilgrims, the Indian Railways is ensuring that devotees do not experience delays post their sacred dip by operating one train from these stations approximately every 4 minutes.
In anticipation of the upcoming auspicious Amrut Snan on February 12, one rake of these trains accommodates an average of 3,780 passengers for each journey.
During a review meeting with zonal and divisional railway officials, Chairman Railway Board and CEO, Satish Kumar, confirmed that Prayagraj Junction and its seven counterparts are fully operational.
“In spite of the ongoing rush, both special and regular trains are maintaining full capacity from these eight stations in the Prayagraj area. The temporary closure of Prayagraj Sangam station two days before and after any Amrit Snan is a standard procedure,” Kumar explained.
“This measure is taken based on recommendations from the Prayagraj district administration and has been consistently implemented during past holy baths, known as Amrit Snans. There is nothing new about this practice,” he added.
“By 3 PM today, over 201 special and regular trains had already departed from the eight stations, including the pivotal Prayagraj Junction, transporting more than 9 lakh pilgrims,” Kumar stated.
The Indian Railways has urged the media and the general public not to be misled by isolated reports suggesting service disruptions at the vital Prayagraj Junction.
The operation of 330 trains on an ordinary day by Indian Railways exemplifies its steadfast dedication to the citizens of India, the government remarked, advising passengers to consult official railway resources for the most recent updates and to disregard any misleading information.
