Pregnant Woman Denied Hospital Admission, Baby Dies Shortly After Delivery in Sidhi

Bhopal, Dec 9 (NationPress) A heartbreaking incident of purported medical negligence has surfaced from Sidhi district, Madhya Pradesh, where a pregnant woman was allegedly refused admission to a government hospital despite being in a critical state.
Consequently, she gave birth to her baby outside the hospital on a stretcher, with the newborn girl surviving for merely 30 minutes.
This shocking event transpired late Sunday night at the Sidhi district hospital. The woman had initially been admitted to a primary health center in Majhauli, roughly 50 km from Sidhi, before being referred to the district hospital due to her worsening condition.
Upon her arrival at the Sidhi district hospital on Sunday evening, her condition further declined. The medical staff at the district hospital later referred her to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital (SGMH) in Rewa, located nearly 70 km away.
As the woman’s family was getting ready to take her to Rewa, she began to experience intense labor pains. Despite her urgent need for medical assistance, she remained on a stretcher outside the hospital. A group of women fashioned a makeshift cover using sarees, under which the woman delivered her baby girl. Tragically, the newborn passed away just 30 minutes after her birth.
In the wake of this incident, the woman’s family organized a protest outside the hospital, accusing the staff of gross medical negligence.
“She was in a critical condition and urgently required medical care, but the hospital staff refused to admit her, claiming she had been discharged and could not be readmitted. Security personnel even assaulted us when we begged for assistance,” expressed Nikhil Kumar, a family member.
In light of the public outcry, Sidhi District Collector Swarochish Somavanshi has initiated an inquiry into the situation.
“A comprehensive investigation has been launched, and necessary action will be taken based on the findings,” assured the collector.
This incident has attracted widespread condemnation, raising significant concerns regarding the state of healthcare facilities in Madhya Pradesh.
