New Delhi, Dec 7 (NationPress) President Droupadi Murmu is set to express her views on 'Dignity for All' as she presides over the NHRC's event to observe Human Rights Day on December 10, according to an official announcement made on Sunday.
The President is anticipated to emphasize the importance of responsive governance and effective public service delivery as vital elements in guaranteeing access to basic amenities, justice, liberty, equality, and dignity for all citizens, as stated by the official.
Also in attendance will be NHRC Chairperson V. Ramasubramanian and P. K. Mishra, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister.
To commemorate the day, in line with this year’s UN theme for Human Rights Day, 'Everyday Essentials', the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) will host a National Conference titled 'Ensuring Everyday Essentials: Public Services and Dignity for All'.
Mishra is scheduled to deliver the keynote address for this conference.
An NHRC statement highlighted that the conference theme aligns with the nation’s developmental trajectory, reinforcing that human rights are not merely abstract ideals, but rather the everyday essentials that affect one’s quality of life through crucial services such as healthcare, education, housing, justice, financial inclusion, and social protection.
The Commission asserts that responsive governance and effective public services are critical to ensuring equal access to basic necessities and fulfilling the constitutional guarantees of justice, liberty, equality, and dignity for everyone.
In recent years, the nation has achieved significant strides in broadening access to basic amenities through initiatives like PM Awas Yojana, Jal Jeevan Mission, Swachh Bharat Mission, Ujjwala Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Kendra, Ayushman Bharat, National Education Policy, Van Bandhu Kalyan Yojana, and the Aspirational Districts and Blocks Programme.
Nonetheless, these welfare measures require ongoing reinforcement to guarantee there are no gaps in access, awareness, and accountability.
The two sessions of the conference—'Basic Amenities for All: A Human Rights Approach' and 'Ensuring Public Services and Dignity For All'—will focus on these critical issues. Renowned domain experts, government secretaries, and other senior officials are expected to engage in discussions about these initiatives during these sessions.
Human Rights Day, which has been observed annually on December 10 since 1950, commemorates the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) by the United Nations General Assembly in 1948.
