Kolkata, March 6 (NationPress) President Droupadi Murmu is set to visit West Bengal starting Friday afternoon, embarking on a tightly packed agenda in the northern region of the state.
This marks her inaugural visit to the state since taking office as India's President. The entirety of North Bengal has been enveloped in a comprehensive security arrangement in anticipation of President Murmu's arrival.
According to the current itinerary, she is expected to land at Bagdogra Airport, located near Siliguri in the Darjeeling district, in the afternoon.
Immediately following her arrival, the President will head to the Governor's House, now referred to as Lok Bhavan, to inaugurate the Darjeeling Hill Festival. This festival celebrates the rich art, culture, and heritage of the hills and North Bengal.
A key feature of the festival, sponsored by Lok Bhavan in partnership with prominent cultural institutions, will be “Roots and Rhythm”, an exhibition showcasing significant artefacts from the historic Indian Museum.
Before resigning from the Governor's position on Thursday evening, C.V. Ananda Bose announced the event via Lok Bhavan's official social media account, highlighting that Darjeeling was poised to host a historical event.
After spending Friday night at Lok Bhavan, the President will travel to Gossaipur in the same district on Saturday to participate in the 9th International Santal Conference, organized by the International Santal Council.
This event was originally scheduled to take place in Bidhannagar but was relocated to Gossaipur for security reasons. The President will also virtually inaugurate the Bidhannagar segment of the event, during which a tree plantation festival will occur online.
The International Santal Council conducts this annual conference to discuss ways to preserve these communities, including the safeguarding of their culture, language, and economic development.
