Kolkata, March 7 (NationPress) Raju Bista, a two-term BJP Lok Sabha representative from the Darjeeling region in North Bengal, asserted on Saturday the urgent need for the upcoming Assembly elections in West Bengal to be conducted under President’s Rule.
He indicated intentions to discuss this matter with President Droupadi Murmu at the earliest opportunity.
Bista made these remarks while addressing the press during the 9th International Santal Conference held by the International Santal Council in Gossaipur, Darjeeling, where the President was the keynote speaker.
“I aim to inform the President about the prevailing law and order situation in West Bengal and subsequently urge her to consider the feasibility of conducting the Assembly elections under President’s Rule,” Bista stated.
He further alleged that the ongoing anti-Special Intensive Revision (SIR) protest led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Kolkata was primarily intended to safeguard the interests of infiltrators rather than those of legitimate voters.
Meanwhile, during her address at the conference, President Murmu expressed slight dismay at observing that some individuals from the Santal community were unable to enter the venue.
“While I was seated, I noticed numerous Santali individuals outside. It appears as if someone is obstructing their entry. Observing the arrangements for this significant international assembly of the Santal community, I believe it should be inclusive for all,” the President remarked.
Additionally, President Murmu reflected on the valorous heritage of the Santal people and emphasized that they have traditionally stood against injustice.
“It is a profound honor for the entire Santal community that our ancestor Tilka Majhi raised the banner of rebellion against oppression nearly 240 years ago... Brothers and sisters, you are their descendants. The blood of the Santals courses through your veins. Santals do not tolerate injustice; they actively resist and confront oppression. They embody bravery and inherit a valiant legacy. Today, we have an International Santali Council, and it should genuinely represent and unite the Santal community,” President Murmu concluded.
