What Did Prez Murmu Say on Gujarat Foundation Day?

New Delhi, May 1 (NationPress) President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday expressed her heartfelt greetings to the citizens of Gujarat in celebration of the state's Foundation Day. She praised the people for their pivotal role in enhancing India's global reputation and serving as a beacon of inspiration for humanity.

This year commemorates the 65th Gujarat Foundation Day, which is celebrated every year on May 1.

In a message posted on X, President Murmu stated, "On this special day for the state of Gujarat, I extend my warmest greetings to all my fellow countrymen, particularly my Gujarati brothers and sisters both in India and overseas."

"This region, home to great leaders like Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi, who spread the message of peace and non-violence globally, and Iron Man Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, who unified India, has always illuminated a path for humanity," she added.

"The citizens here have significantly boosted India's esteem around the world due to their talent, dedication, and hard work. I am confident that Gujarat will continue to set new benchmarks for progress and play a vital role in transforming India into a global power," the President remarked.

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar also shared his warm regards for the people of Gujarat.

In his message on X, he expressed, "Warm greetings on Gujarat Statehood Day. The land of Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Gujarat, continues to inspire through its rich legacy of leadership, resilience, and innovation. Wishing the state ongoing advancement as it ascends to new heights."

This day is popularly referred to as 'Gujarat Gaurav Din' or 'Gujarat Sthapana Divas' and coincides with Maharashtra Din, marking the formation of the states of Maharashtra and Gujarat. On May 1, 1960, the bilingual Bombay State was officially divided into two distinct states—Gujarat and Maharashtra—based on linguistic lines.

The reorganization of Indian states post-Independence was driven by strong demands for linguistic identities.

The Samyukta Maharashtra Samiti, established in 1956, was one of the leading groups advocating for a Marathi-speaking state, while parallel aspirations led to calls for a separate Gujarati-speaking state.

In response to these growing demands, the Indian government formed a commission to address the issues.

The commission's recommendations ultimately resulted in the bifurcation of Bombay State, leading to the establishment of Maharashtra and Gujarat. Both states were inaugurated on the same date, May 1, 1960, to ensure equality.

Today, Gujarat stands as a significant center of trade, industry, and cultural richness, with its citizens playing crucial roles in India's economic and social development.
