New Delhi, Dec 23 (NationPress) Congress' Lok Sabha member Imran Masood on Tuesday fervently endorsed party general secretary and Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra as a viable candidate for the Prime Minister's position, likening her to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
These comments were made in response to criticisms from the BJP regarding Priyanka Gandhi's perceived lack of vocal opposition to violence against minorities in Bangladesh.
Masood asserted that Priyanka Gandhi possesses the same determination and ability to challenge anti-India sentiments in Bangladesh as her grandmother, Indira Gandhi, did during her tenure with Pakistan.
In an interview with IANS, Masood stated, "Priyanka Gandhi was the first to speak out when violence erupted in Bangladesh. Elevate her to the Prime Minister's office and observe her reaction, similar to that of Indira Gandhi. Just as Indira Gandhi fractured Pakistan, Priyanka Gandhi will ensure that Bangladesh does not become a center for anti-India narratives."
When questioned about the potential role of Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi if Priyanka were to assume the Prime Ministership, Masood provided an indirect answer, emphasizing the ideological and political synergy between the siblings.
"Rahul Gandhi will also mirror this approach; Rahul and Priyanka are inseparable, akin to two eyes on a single face. They are the grandchildren of Indira Gandhi. They should not be viewed separately," he added.
The Congress party has traditionally positioned Rahul Gandhi as its leading candidate for the Prime Minister's role, and Masood's remarks arise during ongoing discussions about leadership and strategy within the opposition.
Previously, in her brother's absence, who was attending an event organized by the Indian Overseas Congress in Germany, Priyanka Gandhi, a first-time MP, took a prominent role in the Lok Sabha.
She quickly established her presence, with her incisive critique of the government during the Vande Mataram debate garnering significant attention and going viral.
As opposition parties staged a walkout in the Lok Sabha to protest the VB-G RAM G Bill, Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi was seen leading the demonstration.
Holding a photo of Mahatma Gandhi, she spearheaded the march within the Parliament grounds, chanting slogans against the Bill.
Despite Rahul Gandhi's absence, Congress captured considerable attention for its vigorous protest against the legislation, both inside and outside Parliament, with Priyanka Gandhi emerging as a key figure of the party's resistance during these events.
