Pune Airport Flight Operations Restart After IAF Aircraft Incident
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Pune, April 18 (NationPress) Flight operations at Pune Airport resumed early Saturday morning after an overnight halt caused by an incident involving an Indian Air Force (IAF) aircraft that experienced an undercarriage malfunction during landing, becoming immobilized on the runway, as per officials.
The occurrence was reported late Friday around 10:25 P.M., rendering the runway inoperable and necessitating the temporary suspension of all flight operations. Fortunately, all personnel onboard the aircraft were unharmed, and no injuries were documented.
To rectify the situation, urgent repair and clearance operations were initiated overnight to restore normalcy. After confirming compliance with all safety measures, departing flights resumed at 7:30 A.M. on Saturday, while incoming flights restarted at 8:00 A.M., according to officials.
Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Murlidhar Mohol, took to social media to confirm the incident, stating that air traffic at Pune is anticipated to progressively return to normal throughout the day.
The Indian Air Force had previously reported that the runway at Pune Airport was temporarily unavailable due to the incident with its aircraft, assuring that restoration efforts were already in progress.
"The Pune runway is temporarily unavailable due to an incident involving an IAF aircraft. The aircrew is safe, and there is no damage to civil property," the force noted in a social media announcement.
"Efforts are being made to operationalize the runway and resume regular operations as soon as possible," the statement continued.
According to information from the IAF Air Traffic Control, it was initially projected that the obstruction would be cleared within about four to five hours to restore regular flight services.
During this time, the runway remained entirely closed, affecting scheduled flights until the situation was resolved.
