Chandigarh, March 21 (NationPress) On the inaugural day of the Assembly Budget session, Congress legislators donned black armbands and disrupted the address of Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, subsequently staging a walkout while chanting slogans against the AAP government.
The Leader of Opposition, Partap Singh Bajwa, stood up to speak as the Governor was delivering his address.
Governor Kataria halted his speech as Bajwa began speaking, albeit with the microphone turned off.
Nevertheless, the Governor continued his address despite Congress members rising from their seats.
Bajwa brought attention to the assault on a Colonel and his son in Patiala, as well as the “forcible” eviction of farmers who have been protesting for more than a year at the Shambhu and Khanauri borders adjacent to Haryana.
Subsequently, the Congress members executed a walkout from the Assembly.
Congress leaders expressed vigorous disapproval of the Bhagwant Mann government, accusing it of misleading the farmers and insisting that any farmer-led agitation should occur without interference.
Regarding the assault case involving the army officer, the Congress leader demanded that all culpable Punjab Police officials be arrested and dismissed.
“Recently, (AAP national convener) Arvind Kejriwal visited Punjab, yet neither he nor Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has spoken about the incident,” he stated.
A day prior, the family of the serving Colonel, who alleged that 12 police officials assaulted him and his son over a parking conflict, met with the Governor to request a CBI investigation into the matter. They dismissed the probe conducted by an executive magistrate appointed by the Punjab government.
The government has designated IAS officer Paramvir Singh, currently the Municipal Commissioner of Patiala, as the inquiry officer to investigate the incident after the family expressed dissatisfaction with the ongoing investigation. The family claimed that when they were outside their car eating, police officials arrived and demanded the Colonel remove his vehicle to park theirs.
