Chandigarh, March 21 (NationPress) In a bid to boost parental engagement in the administration of government schools to improve educational standards, the Punjab Cabinet, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, has approved amendments to the Punjab Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Rules of 2011.

A representative from the Chief Minister’s office stated that the amendment seeks to enhance both parental and community involvement in the school management committees, thereby fostering comprehensive academic development in government schools.

This modification suggests increasing the committee members from the current 12 to 16, consisting of 12 parents and four professionals from related fields, including education, sports, and extracurricular activities.

This initiative will bring specialized knowledge and bolster both parental and community engagement in specific educational activities.

Moreover, in another important resolution, the Punjab Cabinet has agreed to amend the Transfer of Prisoner Act of 1950 to facilitate the transfer of undertrial prisoners between states. This process will require mutual consent from both states, where the prisoners are currently held and where they are being transferred, along with the trial court's approval.

This move is expected to alleviate overcrowding in Punjab’s jails.

Additionally, the Cabinet has authorized the establishment of new regulations for Group A of the Social Security, Women and Child Development Department, aimed at serving the public interest better. This will help in optimizing the department's operations, ultimately benefiting marginalized and underprivileged groups.

The Cabinet also sanctioned the terms of reference for appointing the Chairman and members of the Punjab Tirath Yatra Samiti and an advisor to the Punjab Heritage and Tourism Promotion Board.
