Chandigarh, Dec 15 (NationPress) Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema revealed the success of the Bill Liayo Inam Pao scheme on Sunday, which has honored 3,592 winners with a total of Rs 2,11,42,495 for submitting their purchase bills via the ‘Mera Bill’ application until December.

Cheema noted that this groundbreaking initiative, initiated in September 2023, was designed to enhance tax compliance and reward diligent taxpayers, effectively motivating consumers to upload 1,27,509 bills since its launch.

He mentioned that Rs 1,59,93,965 has already been awarded to 2,752 winners. “Additionally, 247 winners have been announced for November 2024, with prizes totaling Rs 15,02,010,” he stated.

Highlighting the scheme’s considerable effect on reducing tax evasion and bolstering state revenue, Finance Minister Cheema praised the program for its role in ensuring transparency and accountability in tax collection.

He highlighted that the initiative has not only motivated consumers to engage actively in the tax framework but has also been instrumental in detecting and penalizing irregularities.

“A penalty of Rs 8,21,87,862 has been levied against 749 bills with discrepancies, underscoring the government's dedication to enforcing tax compliance and equity,” Cheema declared.

The Finance Minister noted that the Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has introduced numerous forward-thinking measures to boost revenue collection and ensure the judicious use of public funds.

“This scheme exemplifies the government's proactive governance approach and unwavering commitment to the welfare of its citizens,” he added.

It is important to mention that bills pertaining to the sale and purchase of petroleum products, including crude oil, petrol, diesel, aviation turbine fuel, and natural gas, along with business-to-business (B2B) transactions, are not eligible for participation in this scheme.
