Chandigarh, April 21 (NationPress) The panchayats in the Goniana block of Punjab’s Bathinda district have resolved to back the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government's anti-drug initiative, 'Yudh Nashiyan Virudh'.
All sarpanches have unanimously adopted a resolution stating that drug dealers in their communities will be subjected to a collective boycott and will not receive any social assistance.
The resolution further indicated that the panchayats will proactively identify drug dealers, report them to the police, and provide support for legal actions against them.
Individuals who choose to abandon drug use will be honored by the panchayats and offered all necessary help to reintegrate into society.
Punjab AAP leader Neel Garg commended this resolution and expressed gratitude to all the sarpanches.
He emphasized that the success of any movement relies heavily on public backing.
“This decision is critically important for the AAP government's campaign against drugs,” he stated.
Garg noted that changes are emerging in villages, and Punjab is on its way to becoming entirely drug-free.
He asserted that only a drug-free Punjab can guarantee a prosperous future for its youth and promote societal development.
The involvement of panchayats and youth is vital for this campaign, and it is promising to see their active support for the government, he remarked.
Garg added that the government is committed to eradicating drugs from Punjab.
“The government is addressing both the demand and supply sides with a comprehensive 360-degree strategy.”
In the last two months, thousands of drug traffickers have been apprehended, and numerous FIRs have been filed against many under the NDPS Act, he mentioned.
Furthermore, thousands of kilograms of narcotics, including heroin, opium, ganja, and poppy husk, have been confiscated, he added.
Additionally, all drug de-addiction centers have been made operational with essential facilities to treat individuals battling drug addiction, he said.
Garg concluded that the AAP government is working diligently, and as public involvement grows, this campaign will achieve remarkable success, resulting in a drug-free Punjab.
