Moga, Feb 16 (NationPress) During the oath ceremony of the Village Defence Committee in this Punjab town, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann delivered a clear message regarding the ‘Yudh Nashean Virudh’ campaign, claiming that the Shiromani Akali Dal, the BJP, and the Congress have contributed to the state's deterioration due to narcotics.

Kejriwal emphasized that, for the first time in Punjab's history, a government has taken decisive action against drug traffickers instead of shielding them. He mentioned the confiscation of 2,000 kg of drugs, the incarceration of significant traffickers, and the demolition of their lavish homes, asserting that the campaign is yielding tangible results.

He warned the citizens of Punjab that reinstating past administrations could jeopardize the state's progress in combating drug abuse.

CM Mann supported the notion that the ‘Yudh Nashean Virudh’ campaign embodies AAP’s promise to eradicate the scourge of ‘chitta’ from Punjab.

He stated that the government's approach combines stringent enforcement with long-term preventive measures, such as developing sports facilities in every village and creating job opportunities to divert youth from addiction.

Both leaders declared the anti-drug initiative a pivotal phase in the governance of the state, positioning it as both a law enforcement effort and a broader initiative to reestablish confidence and opportunities throughout Punjab.

Addressing the audience, Kejriwal remarked, “People have gathered today to participate in ‘Yudh Nashean Virudh’. One year ago, on March 1, the Punjab government, led by CM Bhagwant Mann, initiated this program.

“When we launched the ‘Yudh Nashean Virudh’ campaign a year ago, public confidence was low. They had observed previous governments making empty promises. Hence, when we commenced this battle against drugs, there was widespread apprehension among the populace.

“No one was willing to step forward to provide information. People feared for their family's safety, concerned that they would be threatened or harassed.”

Highlighting the achievements over the last year, Kejriwal stated, “In the past year, law enforcement has apprehended drug traffickers and seized drugs from various locations, with over 2,000 kg confiscated. The authorities have demolished the opulent homes of drug dealers, and major traffickers have been arrested—individuals whose names once instilled fear. Gradually, people began to believe in the AAP government.”

CM Mann remarked that anti-Punjab forces had infused ‘chitta’ into the youth's veins, draining the vibrancy from the state and its citizens’ lives.

“Those who enabled drug trafficking during their reign used official vehicles to transport drugs,” he claimed.

He added, “After comprehensive research, the state government employed a multifaceted strategy that disrupted supply chains, rehabilitated victims, demolished properties linked to drug trade, and incarcerated the offenders.”

Point of View

The ongoing battle against narcotics in Punjab is a critical issue that demands attention. The statements from AAP leaders reveal a stark contrast in governance strategies and raise questions about the accountability of previous administrations. This narrative is essential for understanding the socio-political landscape of Punjab and the implications for national policy on drug abuse.
