Chandigarh, May 16 (NationPress) - In an initiative to create a drug-free Punjab, former Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal declared on Friday that he will wage a battle against drugs at the grassroots level, enlisting the cooperation of the community.
Speaking at an event in SBS Nagar, Kejriwal stated that the state government has effectively weakened the drug trade and that the elimination of this issue is imminent.
He emphasized that the Nasha Mukti Yatra will reach every village and town, rallying the public in this crucial fight against drugs to achieve a completely drug-free Punjab.
Kejriwal confidently asserted that soon, due to government efforts, Punjab will not just be free from drugs but will also lead the way among states in the country.
The former Chief Minister praised the Punjab government for the substantial success of Yudh Nasheyan Virudh.
“It’s encouraging to observe that previously drug-affected villages are now becoming free of drugs thanks to the dedicated efforts of the state government,” he remarked.
Kejriwal noted that while Bollywood once dramatized the drug crisis, current times showcase the youth achieving greatness in sports.
He criticized past ministers who allegedly supported drug lords and facilitated drug distribution using government vehicles.
In contrast, he highlighted that law enforcement is now seizing significant quantities of drugs and enforcing strict penalties to deter others.
Kejriwal pointed out that unlike before, when drug lords were protected by the state, authorities have arrested 10,000 drug traffickers, including 8,500 major offenders.
