The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of Punjab Police successfully apprehended a prominent drug trafficker and seized 18.2 kg of heroin from him.
The detained drug smuggler has been identified as Hira Singh, also known as Hira, who hails from Khaira village in the Amritsar district.
DGP Yadav stated that initial investigations have shown that Hira Singh, along with his accomplice Kulwinder Singh, alias Kinda, from Dauke village in Amritsar, maintained communication with a Pakistan-based drug trafficker named Billa.
This trafficker has reportedly been utilizing drones to transport large quantities of heroin from across the border for the past year, Yadav added.
The DGP confirmed that operations to apprehend Kulwinder Singh are currently ongoing.
Investigations are in progress to ascertain both forward and backward connections in this case, he noted.
Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), ANTF, Nilabh Kishore, mentioned that teams from ANTF Border Range Amritsar had received credible information regarding Hira Singh and Kulwinder Singh being well-known drug smugglers who had been receiving heroin consignments via drones from Pakistan-based traffickers for the last year.
In a prompt response, police teams led by Superintendent of Police (Amritsar), Gupreet Singh, initiated an operation and arrested Hira Singh as he was leaving his residence on a motorcycle to deliver the heroin.
Authorities have confiscated 12 packets of heroin (1.5 kg each), amounting to a total of 18 kg 227 gm, from his possession.
The ADGP emphasized that to dismantle the heroin supply chain, interrogation of the accused will be conducted.
Subsequent actions will be taken against the perpetrators based on the evidence gathered, he added.
