Chandigarh, March 18 (NationPress) In a significant setback to the global drug trafficking network, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police has dismantled a drug cartel, leading to the arrest of an individual and the seizure of 8.08 kg of heroin, as stated by Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav on Tuesday.

The detained drug trafficker has been identified as Dharminder Singh, also known as Sonu, hailing from village Harsha Chhena in Amritsar. Alongside the heroin, law enforcement officials confiscated a .30 bore pistol and five cartridges from his possession. Additionally, police have seized the vehicle he was utilizing for the delivery of drug shipments.

DGP Yadav mentioned that the arrested individual had connections with cross-border drug traffickers who were employing the Ajnala sector to drop drug shipments using drones from beyond the border.

Ongoing investigations aim to uncover both the upstream and downstream connections related to this case, he remarked.

Detailing the operation, Amritsar's Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar explained that, acting on a tip-off, police teams, under the guidance of DCP, Investigation, Ravinder Pal Singh Sandhu, ADCP, Investigation, Navjot Singh, and ACP, North, Kamaljit Singh, apprehended the suspect near the Mental Hospital in Amritsar, where he was waiting for someone to hand over the drug consignment.

Bhullar added that police have also identified another accomplice involved in the drug trafficking and are working to identify the individual expected to receive the consignment.

Efforts are underway to expose the entire network of suppliers, dealers, and buyers, as well as to determine the total volume of drugs acquired by the detained individuals up to this point, he noted.

A case was filed on March 17 under Sections 21 (C) and 29 of the NDPS Act and Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act at the police station located on Majitha Road in Amritsar.
