Shujaat Ali Quadri Sets the Record Straight on AIMIM Connection Amid Misreporting
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, April 6 (NationPress) The chairman of the Muslim Students' Organisation of India, Shujaat Ali Quadri, has publicly clarified that he has no ties with the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM). This statement follows reports from various media outlets that inaccurately labeled him as a party leader while discussing his recent comments regarding Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind.
Quadri emphasized that the references made were misleading and called on journalists and media outlets to fact-check before making political attributions to individuals. In a post shared on X, he remarked, “I have become aware that some media channels have wrongly associated my name with AIMIM. I want to make it clear that I am not affiliated with AIMIM, nor do I have any ongoing connections with the organization.”
He expressed his respect for democratic institutions and secular political entities but clarified that his efforts have always been independent and focused on specific issues, without any formal political ties. He further warned that misreporting can foster confusion among the general public.
This clarification was issued shortly after Quadri commented on a separate issue concerning Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind’s stance towards AIMIM. In a Hindi post dated April 4, he expressed that while political disagreements with AIMIM are normal and he personally has some, labeling the party as “communal” was both “shocking” and “very unfortunate.”
He urged Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind to be accountable for its statements and to clarify the basis for such claims. “Remaining silent is not an option any longer; the truth must be revealed,” he stated.
However, certain news reports, while referencing his comments, incorrectly identified him as an AIMIM leader, which led to the need for his clarification.
Quadri reiterated his lack of connection to the party and highlighted the importance of accurate journalism, particularly regarding political associations.
