New Delhi, Sep 27 (NationPress) The Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has commenced a South American journey, where he plans to engage with political leaders, university students, and members of the business community across four nations.

The announcement was made on Saturday by Pawan Khera, the head of the Congress media and publicity department, who, however, did not reveal the specific countries that LoP Gandhi will visit.

Khera shared on X, "The Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Shri Rahul Gandhi, has begun a visit to South America. He will be interacting with political leaders, university students, and business community members across four countries."

This trip marks LoP Gandhi's first overseas visit in September, aiming to enhance democratic, trade, and strategic relations, building upon historical collaboration between India and South America and fostering Global South solidarity.

During his time in Brazil and Colombia, LoP Gandhi is anticipated to meet with university students and hold discussions with presidents and senior officials from various countries, reinforcing democratic and strategic bonds, as stated by the party.

He is also expected to connect with business leaders to explore new opportunities as India aims to diversify its trade and partnerships in light of US tariffs.

Earlier this month, he traveled to Malaysia, though the Congress did not issue an official statement about that journey. The trip raised various questions and attracted criticism from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The BJP criticized his foreign travels, with BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya sharing a photograph of Gandhi, suggesting he was vacationing in Malaysia.

Malviya posted on X, "Rahul Gandhi has slipped away yet again -- this time on a secret vacation in Langkawi, Malaysia. It seems the pressures of Bihar's politics were too much for the Congress 'Yuvraj', who had to escape for a break. Or is it another one of those undisclosed meetings that no one is meant to know about?"
